Nevada Earthquake Rattles Carson City and Reno, Sends Tremors into California

A 5.8-magnitude earthquake hit Nevada on Monday afternoon, with shaking felt as far as California. The quake struck near the town of Yerington, with over 10,000 people reporting feeling it on the USGS website. Fourteen aftershocks followed, ranging from 2.5 to 4.2 in magnitude. Strong shaking was felt near the epicenter, while Carson City and Reno experienced light to moderate shaking. No injuries or damages were reported. The shaking was also felt in western and northern California, with residents in Sacramento observing ornaments swaying and water sloshing in a pool. This earthquake comes shortly after a magnitude 7.0 quake struck California near Petrolia, generating a strong shake and a short-lived tsunami warning. More than 150,000 people were estimated to have been exposed to shaking from the earthquake, which was felt across Humboldt County and generated multiple aftershocks. By 2:30 p.m., at least 39 aftershocks of at least 2.5 magnitude had been reported in the region.
