Timeline of Brian Thompson shooting: Pennsylvania police apprehend suspect

Luigi Mangione, 26, has been arrested in connection with the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania. He has been charged with murder and other felonies in New York, as well as facing weapons and forgery charges in Pennsylvania. Police recovered bullet casings with words written on them, and handwritten papers found on Mangione indicate ill will toward corporate America.

Thompson was shot in Midtown Manhattan on December 4 and the alleged shooter fled the scene. Police found a backpack connected to the killing containing a jacket and fake money from a Monopoly game on December 7. Mangione was spotted in Altoona, Pennsylvania on December 9, where he was acting suspiciously and carrying fraudulent IDs. He was arrested and charged with forgery, carrying a firearm without a license, tampering with records, possessing instruments of crime, and false identification in Pennsylvania. In New York, he was charged with murder and four weapons felonies.

The NYPD Chief of Detectives stated that further charges related to Thompson’s shooting would be determined by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office. Detectives were traveling to Altoona to interview Mangione and gather more information. The three-page document found with Mangione expressed his motivation and mindset, indicating a dislike for corporate America. This is an ongoing investigation with new updates as they become available.
