Vice President-elect JD Vance visited Fairview, North Carolina on Friday to deliver a message of support to the community devastated by Hurricane Helene. Alongside Senators Ted Budd and Thom Tillis, Vance expressed love and solidarity with the residents, ensuring they are not forgotten during the holiday season.
During his visit, Vance also met with the family of Battalion Chief Tony Garrison, who tragically passed away during rescue efforts in the storm. Vance highlighted the struggles faced by the community, including insurance companies failing to provide promised assistance, leaving gaps that organizations like Samaritan’s Purse are filling.
Samaritan’s Purse has been active in providing aid not only in North Carolina but also in other states affected by Helene, offering essential supplies, assisting with cleanup efforts, and rebuilding homes. Vance praised the organization’s swift response and emphasized the importance of improving communication infrastructure to better handle future emergencies.
With plans to replace hundreds of prefab homes and repair existing structures, Samaritan’s Purse has already assisted over 4,800 homeowners in the region. Vance stressed the need for effective communication systems to minimize damage and facilitate communication in times of crisis.
The incoming Trump-Vance administration will prioritize enhancing communication infrastructure to ensure quicker response and coordination during disasters. Vance’s visit to Fairview and his collaboration with Samaritan’s Purse demonstrate a commitment to supporting communities in need and building resilience in the face of natural disasters.
