Dr. Andrew Campbell, a 33-year-old doctor in Ohio, has been charged with arson after allegedly setting another local doctor’s house on fire on Dec. 7. The fire was determined to have been intentional, and Campbell was indicted on six counts of aggravated arson on Feb. 12. The targeted doctor, Dr. Tahir Jamil, may have a connection to Campbell’s wife, as Jamil allegedly told police that he had an affair with Campbell’s wife between late July and early August 2024.
Both doctors worked at the University of Toledo, with Campbell being a fellow in the Hematology-Oncology program and Jamil being a clinical associate professor in the College of Medicine and Life Sciences. Campbell was placed on administrative leave without pay after being charged with arson, while Jamil was placed on administrative leave from his unpaid, volunteer faculty position pending an investigation into allegations of improper conduct.
The Lucas County Prosecutor’s Office stated that Campbell is scheduled for arraignment on Feb. 24, and declined to provide further comments on the ongoing case. The university did not provide additional comments on the situation involving the two doctors, and the representation for Campbell in court was not clear.
The motive behind the arson attack remains unclear, but the incident has led to both doctors being placed on administrative leave as the legal proceedings continue.
