A dramatic video captured the moment a train hit an SUV in Layton, Utah, after the vehicle was rear-ended by a truck and stopped on the train tracks. The driver of the SUV attempted to reverse out of harm’s way but ended up backing into the crossing arms before fleeing the vehicle. The train subsequently slammed into the SUV, causing significant damage to the train but fortunately the driver of the SUV was not injured. The Utah Transit Authority emphasized the importance of being cautious around train tracks, noting that trains cannot swerve and can take a long distance to come to a stop. They advised drivers to push through crossing arms if necessary to avoid being hit by a train. The video of the incident was released by the transit authority to raise awareness about train safety. Additionally, the train was reported to be going 67 miles per hour before the emergency brake was applied, slowing it down to 32 miles per hour at the time of impact. The transit authority urged drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians to be hyper-aware near train tracks to prevent accidents like this from happening.
