Carolina fans have something to cheer about as the Tar Heels have earned a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament, allowing them to host games at home for the first time since 2015. In the Birmingham 2 Region, the Tar Heels will not have to leave the Eastern or Central time zones during the tournament. The preview of potential opponents includes the Oregon State Beavers, the West Virginia Mountaineers, the Columbia Lions, and the Washington Huskies.

The Oregon State Beavers, a unique program this season, have faced a rocky start but are surging into the tournament with a strong finish. The West Virginia Mountaineers, led by head coach Mark Kellogg in his second season, have seen success at home but a challenging road record. The Columbia Lions, making their second straight tournament appearance, boast impressive rebounding and sharing abilities as a team. Lastly, the Washington Huskies, under Head Coach Tina Langley, have had a breakthrough season in the Big Ten.

Coverage of the Tar Heels’ tournament games can be found on the Tar Heel Sports Network. With potential matchups against West Virginia, Columbia, or Washington, a win on Saturday would lead to a game on Monday. The Sweet 16 game is scheduled for Friday, Mar. 28, in Birmingham, while the Elite Eight tips off on Sunday, Mar. 30, in Birmingham. The Final Four is set for Friday, Apr. 4, and Sunday, Apr. 6, in Tampa. Stay tuned for more analysis and interviews on the Holding Court podcast to prepare for Carolina’s postseason run. Go Heels!
