Jaden Rashada’s visit to North Carolina canceled; transfer quarterback was set to arrive mid-week.

North Carolina decided to cancel a visit with Georgia transfer Jaden Rashada just a day before his scheduled arrival in Chapel Hill. This decision was made as the Tar Heels focus on stabilizing their quarterback room after multiple departures this offseason. The addition of former South Alabama quarterback Gio Lopez on April 17 was meant to address the void left by the departing scholarship passers.

Lopez, who started for the Jaguars last season, was brought in to compete for the starting job alongside true freshman Bryce Baker and Max Johnson. With Lopez signing a $4 million deal over two years, the Tar Heels seemed to be moving forward with their new quarterback lineup. Rashada, a former top-50 recruit, was expected to add depth and competition to the team, but ultimately did not join the program.

Rashada, who started his career at Arizona State before transferring to Georgia, did not attempt a pass for the Bulldogs during the 2024 College Football Playoff run. With Gunner Stockton likely taking the starting job at Georgia, Rashada entered the transfer portal earlier this month. Despite his potential, the Tar Heels chose to focus on their existing quarterback options for the time being.

The decision to cancel Rashada’s visit indicates a shift in the Tar Heels’ quarterback strategy as they work to solidify their roster for the upcoming season. With Lopez leading the charge, North Carolina aims to move forward with confidence in their quarterback lineup.
