Press Release: Success for Throwers at Weekend Track and Field Meet
Charlotte, N.C./Louisville, Ky. – April 25, 2023 – The throwers took the spotlight at the recent track and field competition, with standout performances by Tommy Kitchell and Kate Joyce, who each clinched victory in their respective events.
Kitchell dominated the Men’s Shot Put Invitational, securing first place with a distance of 18.52 meters (60-09.25). His teammates also excelled, as Spencer Williams placed fourth with a throw of 17.90 meters (58-08.75), while Ethan Ritcher followed in fifth at 17.58 meters (57-08.25). Williams’ performance ranks him 42nd in the eastern region, bolstering hopes for future competitions.
In the women’s javelin, Carolina showcased its strength with a one-two finish. Kate Joyce led the field right from her first throw, achieving a winning mark of 53.66 meters (176-00). Julia Moraitis maintained her second-place position throughout the event, concluding with a throw of 42.96 meters (140-11).
Additional notable results from the Louisville meet include Skylar Bohlman, who finished fifth in the women’s shot put with a personal best of 14.74 meters (48-04.50). In the men’s discus, competitors from Charlotte felt the pressure, with Sam Corley reaching 40.10 meters (131-06.00) for a 22nd-place finish, and Max Stakun-Pickering close behind at 39.72 meters (130-03.000) in 24th.
