He reported receiving a threatening call from an unknown person, claiming dissatisfaction with the city’s support for Israel and the intent to place a bomb in City Hall. Following this, Williams alerted local law enforcement and sent messages to Mayor Bass and other officials.
The Los Angeles Police Department conducted a search but found no evidence of explosives. Investigators later determined that Williams had orchestrated the threat himself, calling his city phone from his personal device to create the illusion of an incoming threat. Assistant Director of the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office, Akil Davis, condemned Williams’ actions, emphasizing the betrayal of public trust by government officials.
Williams, appointed by Mayor Bass in February 2023, had a prior career in public safety and legal roles. He is scheduled to make his initial court appearance in downtown Los Angeles soon.
