Israel-Gaza Update: UK Minister Reacts to Netanyahu’s Criticism of Starmer; UN Raises Concerns Over Gaza’s Humanitarian Crisis | World News

UK Government Responds to Netanyahu’s Accusations Against Starmer

The UK government has firmly rejected Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s assertion that Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has exacerbated antisemitism and aligned with Hamas following the tragic killings of two Israeli embassy workers. During an address, Netanyahu criticized Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, claiming they were "on the wrong side of humanity," especially after their recent warnings of "concrete action" against Israel given the ongoing "egregious" military operations in Gaza.

Netanyahu’s comments suggested that these leaders were siding with "mass murderers" and implied support for Hamas, which he accused of heinous acts. He controversially tied their criticisms to a shooting incident near the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, DC, which had also been condemned by all three nations.

In response, Luke Pollard, the UK’s Armed Forces Minister, distanced the government from Netanyahu’s claims, stating, "I don’t recognise what Prime Minister Netanyahu has said." He emphasized the UK’s condemnation of the killings of diplomats and called for a thorough investigation.

While affirming the importance of addressing antisemitism, Pollard highlighted the necessity for the UK to engage in efforts for lasting peace in Gaza. He called for the release of all hostages, a ceasefire, and increased humanitarian aid to the region.

Starmer had previously articulated that antisemitism is an "evil we must stamp out," further indicating the UK government’s commitment to combating this issue while navigating the complexities of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
