David Ford of UNC Wins 2025 Fred Haskins Award

The University of North Carolina (UNC) proudly announces that senior David Ford has been awarded the prestigious 2025 Fred Haskins Award, recognized nationally as the Men’s Golf Player of the Year. Presented by STIFEL and the Haskins Foundation, Ford joins only the legendary John Inman (1984) as the second Tar Heel to receive this honor since its inception in 1971.

The Haskins Award is determined by votes from an influential panel that includes golf coaches, athletes, sports information directors, and members of the college golf media. Ford’s remarkable performance throughout the 2024-2025 season has solidified his legacy, leading the nation with an impressive scoring average of 68.78 and five tournament victories. His achievements include setting multiple Carolina records: scoring, combined score to par (-89), average score to par per round (-2.47), and rounds in the 60s (25).

Ford was recognized as the ACC Player of the Month on three occasions—October, March, and April—culminating in a total of five such honors during his collegiate career. He etched his name in history by being the first Tar Heel to win three consecutive tournaments at the Valspar Collegiate Invitational, Augusta Haskins Award Invitational, and the Tar Heel Intercollegiate.

Ford is not just limited to winning this award; he has tied for the most career wins at UNC (seven) and set career records for scoring average (70.13) and combined score to par (-162).

With this achievement, Ford becomes the 11th player from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) to earn the Haskins Award. Additionally, he is on track to be the first Tar Heel men’s golfer to receive first-team All-America honors for two seasons, with official announcements pending. Ford’s outstanding contributions to Carolina golf mark him as a rising star in the sport.
