Elon Musk laments DOGE’s status as the White House ‘scapegoat’

In a recent interview, Elon Musk expressed his frustrations about being blamed for issues during the Trump administration, particularly regarding the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which he led. He remarked that the department has become an unjust scapegoat for various problems, stating, “DOGE is just becoming the whipping boy for everything.” Following significant financial setbacks for Tesla, Musk has reduced his presence in Washington, D.C., and has shifted focus back to his businesses.

During interviews in South Texas coinciding with the test flight of SpaceX’s latest unmanned Starship, Musk critiqued the federal bureaucracy, claiming it was more challenging to improve than he anticipated. He also expressed disappointment in Trump’s “big, beautiful” tax and spending bill, criticizing it for potentially increasing the budget deficit and undermining DOGE’s efforts. Musk stated, “I think a bill can be big or it can be beautiful, but I don’t know if it can be both,” highlighting concerns that the legislation could add $3.8 trillion to the national debt within a decade, according to the Congressional Budget Office.

Despite his past support as a major Republican donor for Trump’s campaign, Musk indicated he plans to significantly reduce his political expenditures in future elections, stating, “I think I’ve done enough.” This shift reflects a broader intention to concentrate on his business ventures, particularly Tesla and SpaceX, moving away from the political spotlight that has increasingly polarized his public image.
