Chloe Humphrey of UNC Wins 2025 Tewaaraton Award
Chapel Hill, N.C. – Chloe Humphrey, the standout freshman from the University of North Carolina women’s lacrosse team, was honored as the winner of the prestigious 2025 Tewaaraton Award during a banquet at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian. This recognition marks a historic moment, as Humphrey becomes the first Tewaaraton winner in UNC history, just a day after being named IWLCA Player of the Year.
The Tewaaraton Award is considered the top accolade in collegiate lacrosse, celebrating the most outstanding male and female players in the United States. Humphrey, along with her sister Ashley, made history as the 12th and 13th Tewaaraton finalists for UNC, with Chloe becoming the first freshman in the women’s category to receive this honor.
The 2025 season has been a remarkable journey for the Darien, Connecticut native, as she set new records with an impressive 90 goals and 28 assists, totaling 118 points. Her achievements not only established an NCAA freshman record but also propelled the Tar Heels to their fourth National Championship. Additionally, she was recognized as a first-team All-American, first-team All-ACC, and was awarded ACC Tournament MVP and NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player.
Throughout the season, Humphrey showcased her consistent scoring prowess, recording hat tricks in 18 of 22 games—including nine matches where she scored five or more goals. This extraordinary performance has solidified her status as a rising star in collegiate lacrosse.
