North Carolina’s Chloe Humphrey Wins Tewaaraton Award
Charlotte, N.C. (theACC.com) – In a historic achievement for both herself and the University of North Carolina, redshirt freshman attacker Chloe Humphrey has been awarded the 2025 Tewaaraton Award, recognizing her as the nation’s top college lacrosse player. The announcement was made during a ceremony held in Washington, D.C., making Humphrey the first-ever Tar Heel to receive this prestigious honor.
Humphrey, a native of Darien, Connecticut, has made waves in her debut season, scoring a remarkable 90 goals and contributing 28 assists for a total of 118 points. Her goal tally not only set an NCAA record for freshmen but also helped lead the Tar Heels to an unbeaten season (22-0) and secured their fourth NCAA National Championship title.
At the awards ceremony, it was noted that four of the five finalists for the Tewaaraton Award hailed from Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) programs, showcasing the conference’s dominance in collegiate lacrosse. Along with Humphrey, the finalists included Boston College’s Rachel Clark and Shea Dolce, and UNC’s Ashley Humphrey.
In addition to her Tewaaraton Award, Humphrey also received accolades such as IWLCA Player of the Year, Attacker of the Year, and First-Team All-America honors. Her exceptional performance included logging hat tricks in 18 of 20 games and boasting nine outings with five or more goals. Such outstanding contributions earned her recognition as ACC Tournament MVP and NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player, along with being named IWLCA National Offensive Player of the Week on two occasions.
Humphrey’s accolades mark a monumental moment in North Carolina’s lacrosse history, as she sets the bar for future athletes in the sport.
