NC State Trooper Charged with Domestic Violence
A North Carolina State Highway Patrol trooper is facing serious allegations of domestic violence. Mark Steven Melvin, 45, from Roxboro, was arrested on May 22, 2025, following multiple charges, including misdemeanor domestic violence, assault inflicting serious injury, and assault on a female. These charges stem from a troubling incident that occurred on April 8 involving his ex-girlfriend.
According to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), Melvin allegedly used physical force during an argument, twisting his ex-girlfriend’s hand to seize her cellphone. The action inflicted significant injury to her left ring finger, necessitating surgical treatment.
In response to the charges, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol placed Melvin on administrative duty as of May 7, pending the outcome of the criminal case and an internal investigation. The agency has publicly acknowledged the situation and adjusted Melvin’s duty status in light of the allegations.
Melvin, who has served with the State Highway Patrol for over a decade, primarily patrolling Person County, is no stranger to controversy. He previously came under scrutiny in 2021 for posting contentious remarks on social media, labeling the Black Lives Matter movement as a "racist money laundering hate group."
