Federal Investigation Expands to College Basketball Amid Allegations of Game-Fixing
A federal investigation into alleged game-fixing has now implicated several college basketball programs, with at least two NBA players also under scrutiny. Sources indicate that games involving Eastern Michigan, North Carolina A&T, and Mississippi Valley State are being investigated for suspicious wagering activity.
North Carolina A&T suspended three players, including leading scorers Landon Glasper and Ryan Forrest, on Thursday. Despite questions about potential links to the gambling probe, head coach Monte Ross denied any connection. However, reports suggest that at least one of A&T’s games, notably a January 9 matchup against Delaware, has raised flags due to unusual betting patterns that drew attention from gambling monitoring services.
Similarly, a mid-January report revealed that large bets on a Central Michigan game prompted the firm Integrity Compliance 360 to issue alerts regarding uncharacteristic wagering activity. Misaligned betting lines in games involving Eastern Michigan and a game last March involving Temple University, where former player Hysier Miller is under investigation, have further complicated the situation.
In addition to the college programs, former NBA player Jontay Porter has admitted to manipulating his on-court performance for gambling purposes, while current NBA player Terry Rozier is also facing scrutiny. The investigation has led to multiple arrests, including those of individuals attempting to flee the country with significant amounts of cash and betting slips.
The NCAA emphasized its commitment to maintaining the integrity of college sports, stating that it collaborates with integrity monitoring services and is dedicated to athlete well-being. As the investigation progresses, the list of implicated schools may continue to grow, with federal and NCAA inquiries into the matter intensifying.
