Pitcher Jake Knapp led the charge, delivering a masterful performance over 8.1 innings, striking out seven while allowing just four hits. The ACC Pitcher of the Year, Knapp’s stellar outing brings his season ERA down to 1.98, making him the only qualified ACC pitcher under 2.50. With a perfect 13-0 record, he is now close to setting a new program record for wins in a single season.
Offensively, the Tar Heels found their rhythm in the fourth inning, scoring three runs off five hits. Sophomore third baseman Gavin Gallaher ignited the rally with a triple off the left-center wall, followed by a productive batting performance that included two hits and two walks, along with an RBI. Gallaher’s remarkable regional opener stats now stand at 5-for-6 with seven RBIs over the past two years.
The scoring continued in the fifth inning with Gallaher’s single extending the lead to 4-0, finished off by RBIs from Tyson Bass and Sam Angelo during the fourth inning surge.
