Press Release: Major Renovation Set for North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher
Fort Fisher, NC — The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher is gearing up for a significant $65 million renovation and expansion set to commence this fall. This marks the first major upgrade of the facility in over two decades and promises to elevate the visitor experience with the introduction of several state-of-the-art attractions.
The renovation will include the construction of the largest shark habitat in the state, a new interactive touch pool, and a live coral reef habitat, enhancing the educational and interactive elements of the aquarium. However, during the construction period, all areas of the aquarium will be closed to the public for approximately 30 months.
In preparation for the transition, the aquarium is finalizing staffing plans. While it reassures that no full-time employees are expected to lose their jobs, it is anticipated that temporary staff may not be retained.
A spokesperson for the aquarium confirmed that the facility is coordinating with its sister locations at Pine Knoll Shores and Roanoke Island to ensure a smooth relocation process for some of the animals. However, the majority of the creatures will remain at Fort Fisher during the renovations.
The renovation reflects a commitment to wildlife conservation and education, aiming to create an immersive environment for guests of all ages. As the project progresses, the aquarium looks forward to reopening its doors with enhanced exhibits that shine a light on marine life and conservation efforts.
For more updates about the renovation process and future plans, visitors are encouraged to stay connected through the aquarium’s official channels.
