House Speaker Destin Hall labeled her actions as “disgraceful,” arguing that they encourage a culture of violence against political figures and set a dangerous precedent amid an already tense political climate. He announced he was consulting with legislative attorneys to address this behavior.
Further criticism came from fellow Republicans, including state Rep. Erin Paré, who condemned von Haefen’s actions as “horrible,” citing the urgency for responsible discourse among lawmakers. The North Carolina Republican Party has demanded her resignation, highlighting the growing division in the state’s political landscape.
