Man Killed in Shooting at ‘No Kings’ Protest in Utah, According to Police

The “No Kings” protests against President Trump drew large crowds across the U.S. on June 14, with hundreds of thousands participating. In Salt Lake City, the event turned tragic when Arthur Folasa Ah Loo, a 39-year-old participant, was killed in a shooting prompted by a confrontation involving Arturo Gamboa, a 24-year-old man who allegedly brandished a rifle. The incident occurred around 7:56 PM while demonstrators were marching, leading to panic as people fled for safety.

Police reports indicate that Gamboa was seen fleeing from peacekeepers who ordered him to drop the weapon, which he allegedly pointed toward the crowd. In an ensuing confrontation, one of the peacekeepers fired three shots, striking both Gamboa and Ah Loo, who was described as an innocent bystander. Gamboa was later apprehended and charged with murder.

The event was part of a nationwide series of protests against Trump’s policies and coincided with controversial celebrations of the U.S. Army’s anniversary. While most protests remained peaceful, some witnessed violence, such as a man driving his vehicle into a crowd in Northern Virginia. In Los Angeles, police clashed with protesters, deploying batons and tear gas after projectiles were thrown.

In addition to the shooting, another tragic incident occurred in Minnesota, where a lawmaker and her husband were killed in what was labeled a politically motivated act. The “No Kings” organizers emphasized adherence to public safety guidelines, urging attendees to refrain from attending the protests following the law enforcement’s advice.

The Salt Lake City shooting has drawn concerns about public safety during protests, and investigations are ongoing to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the events.
