Two Escapees from New Jersey Immigration Detention Center Captured

President Trump has directed Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to implement an extensive deportation initiative focusing on cities led by Democrats, marking what he claims to be “the single largest Mass Deportation Program in History.” This order coincides with recent events in New Jersey, where two out of four detainees escaped from Delaney Hall in Newark on June 12. These individuals, identified as Joel Enrique Sandoval-Lopez from Honduras and Joan Sebastian Castaneda-Lozada from Colombia, were classified as “dangerous criminal illegal aliens.”

Following their escape, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) launched a search, offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to their capture. On June 13, authorities apprehended Sandoval-Lopez in Passaic, New Jersey, after he reportedly resisted arrest. Castaneda-Lozada attempted to surrender at a local police station, but was refused due to sanctuary policies; he later turned himself in to ICE and FBI agents. Both individuals have substantial criminal records, including charges of aggravated assault, burglary, and theft.

DHS is still looking for the remaining escapees, Franklin Norberto Bautista-Reyes and Andres Pineda-Mogollon, both of whom have serious criminal backgrounds. Bautista-Reyes had entered the U.S. illegally and faced multiple charges, while Pineda-Mogollon overstayed a tourist visa and had recent arrests for burglary-related offenses.

Prior to the escape, Delaney Hall had faced numerous complaints regarding its conditions, including insufficient food. A riot occurred on the day of the breakout, with reports suggesting that inmates attempted to breach a facility wall following delayed meal service. The detention center, which has 1,196 beds, is the first to open during Trump’s second term.
