Tragic Incident Claims Hiker’s Life at Big Bradley Falls in North Carolina
A tragic accident occurred over the weekend when 29-year-old Astrid Angelina Madrid Ticas fell approximately 75 to 100 feet while hiking near Big Bradley Falls in Saluda, North Carolina. The incident took place around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, prompting an immediate response from local emergency crews, including the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Saluda Fire and Rescue, and Mill Spring Fire Department.
According to Polk County officials, upon arriving at the Big Bradley Falls Trailhead on Holbert Cove Road, responders found Ticas had succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The county expressed its condolences to her family and loved ones during this difficult time, emphasizing the importance of safety while navigating trails and natural areas.
Big Bradley Falls is renowned for its stunning beauty but is notorious for its challenging access and inherent dangers. The most frequented path to the base of the falls requires navigating a steep trail, followed by a treacherous 20-foot descent down a cliffside using a rope. This incident marks the second fatality involving a hiker in North Carolina in just over a week. On a prior occasion, 25-year-old Yoseph Alabdulwahab drowned at Steele Creek Falls, located about 75 miles from Big Bradley Falls.
