Cuba has experienced a prolonged blackout due to a series of electrical grid failures, with one of the major power plants failing on Friday. The grid has collapsed three more times since then, with the latest outage occurring as a tropical storm made landfall. This has led to widespread blackouts, protests, and disruptions in daily life, causing officials to cancel school and non-vital government services until at least Wednesday. As many as 10 million people were left without power when the country’s largest power plant went offline. In Havana, only scattered businesses, bars, and homes are running on small generators. Despite the difficulties, residents are trying to continue with their daily lives amidst the darkness and uncertainty of when power will be restored. Photos from Cuba show the impact of the power grid collapse and the resilience of the people.
