Four killed as helicopter collides with radio tower in Houston

A tragic helicopter crash in Houston on Sunday night resulted in the deaths of four people, including a child, after the aircraft collided with a radio tower. The Robinson R44 helicopter crashed at around 7:54 p.m. local time, with all four people on board losing their lives in the accident. The crash is currently being investigated by authorities including the FAA, NTSB, Houston Police Department, Texas DPS, and Houston Fire Department.

The helicopter had taken off from Ellington Airport and crashed about 17 miles northwest in the area of North Ennis Street and Engelke Street. No other structures or homes were damaged in the crash, and the fire caused by the accident was extinguished. Chief J. Noe Diaz urged the public not to touch any debris from the crash and to contact authorities if any pieces are found in the community.

The crash resulted in a large explosion that was described as a “fireball” by officials, with Houston Fire Department Station 17 hearing the loud explosion. The radio tower involved in the crash had reported inoperable lights days before the accident. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, with more information expected to be released as the story develops.
